I had never driven a scooter before going to Bali. And
even though this was one of the most fun experiences for me while on the
island, I probably terrified everyone on the roadways of Indonesia enough to
get demoted to “glorified passenger” for all future rides. Don’t worry – no one
was seriously injured on our scooter day. I may
have bumped into a truck just a teeny little bit on one occasion. And there’s a
chance that I passed another car
close enough for it to brush my camera bag. And thank god I didn’t hit the lady
scooting around with her kid coming around the corner. My toe took a nasty stub
for it, and I got away with only being only a mildly embarrassed tourist.
We scooted our way south of Kuta and to Uluwatu. This was
yet another trip that showed us just how much more beautiful Bali is outside of
Kuta.
We dined at Single Fin, a restaurant perched high on a cliff overlooking the beach and tsunami-like waves that the very experienced surfers were able to take on.
After trying to sneak into a very classy looking hotel to
go into the pool, getting noticed and kicked out within about 5 minutes, going in
the ocean and wading around in the shallow water, and then finally realizing
how ridiculous of a farmer’s tan I’d achieved on my legs from riding on the
scooter in jean shorts, we decided it had been a pretty eventful day and rolled
back to Kuta on our rental scooters.
